The purpose of the Programme is to provide participants with a core understanding of Gestalt principles for incorporation into their professional practice. In addition the Programme aims to heighten the Awareness of participants in a way which leads to greater Personal and Professional efficacy.

 

The Programme is highly experiential. You learn about yourself, your clients and Gestalt largely through participating in a series of Gestalt exercises and Large Group/Small Group Process. In addition time is given to working in small groups to practising Gestalt with feedback from the facilitator and peers.

 

Programme Content: The Gestalt Cycle of Experience/ Contact and Interruptions to Contact/The Body and Working with the Body/The I-Thou Dialogic Relationship/ Existentialism as the foundation of Gestalt/The Phenomenological Method/Group Supervision

A second Connacht regional meeting (Galway, Mayo,Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim area) has been organised.

As part of IAHIP’s regional development, it is hoped that regional meetings will take place regularly in the various regions throughout the country. The Regional Officer, Bronagh Starrs, will do her best to be in attendance at most of these initial gatherings.

At these regional meetings, we will discuss such matters as co-creating a regional structure, developments within the organisational life of IAHIP, and the general experience of our membership within IAHIP. These meetings are designed to give members an influential voice and it is an opportunity to find out about what is happening within the organisation.

These workshop have been approved for External and Personal CPD Credits by the College of Psychiatry of Ireland.

The combined workshop (11-14th June) has been approved for maximum 10 External CPD credits by the College of Psychiatry of Ireland.

Attendees at the first 2 days would therefore earn 10 External CPD Credits plus 2 Personal CPD Credits.

Attendees at all 4 days would therefore earn 10 External CPD Credits plus 14 Personal CPD Credits.

In these workshops Professor Thomas Lynch will:

 

Module 1 (11-12 June)

Describe how to help clients who have not responded to medication or standard CBT.

Share his underpinning theory, based on 15 years of clinical trials and research.

Provide patient-friendly materials which can be used in groups and with individuals.

Demonstrate how to coach clients to open up to emotional experiencing and reduce envy or bitterness, thereby raising their capacity for joy.

Expand your skill-set for treating other disorders in which over-control and emotional constriction is a feature, such as anorexia, OCD and social anxiety.

 

Module 2 (13-14 June)

Describe orientation and commitment strategies

Show how to change social behaviour by changing physiological arousal

Share his method of encouraging clients to approach novelty and try new things

Demonstrate being open to feedback – determining whether to accept or reject feedback

Expand your skills in teaching clients to be more intimate in relationships, express vulnerable emotions and validate others

 

Professor Thomas Lynch is one of the world’s leading researchers in mood and personality disorders and is an international expert in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. He has been lead investigator on 7 RCTs. He is a Professor at the University of Southampton. Since 1997 he has had over 90 articles & book chapters published . He is a recipient of the John M. Rhoades Psychotherapy Research Endowment and is a Beck Institute Scholar. This workshop is a preview of his latest book “DBT for Treatment Resistant Depression: Targeting Behavioral Over-Control” due for publication by Guilford Press. Professor Lynch is also well-known for being an authoritative, entertaining and charismatic speaker.

This workshop provides and opportunity for psychotherapists, counsellors, psychologists, educators, and health care professionals to enhance their awareness of their own Shadow. In addition, as participants gain greater awareness themselves, the workshop will provide them with greater insight when working with clients on owning the Shadow.

During the four days participants will be provided with an opportunity to experientially explore the following areas:

Mother Daughter Sexual Abuse

Training for Professionals to Support Survivors

This training workshop will include a presentation and discussion covering the various aspects of this type of abuse.   It will cover the effects on survivors and what they need in their recovery.   We will look at what mother daughter sexual abuse is and how it differs and compares with other forms of incest and sexual abuse.   We will also cover the impact on attachment, the effects on survivors’ lives, their family of origin and mother as perpetrator.   There will also be a brief documentary featuring four survivors and an art therapy workshop which will give you an opportunity to explore what issues may arise for you should a client disclose to you that they experienced sexual abuse by their mother.   There will also be time spent on the healing process and issues that may arise in the therapeutic relationship and through the therapeutic process.

Michelle Gunning is a fully accredited Art Psychotherapist (MIACAT), with an MA qualification from Crawford College of Art and Design,Cork.   Michelle has worked in areas including education, child sexual abuse, trauma, addiction, mental health and intellectual disability.   Michelle has a number of years of experience working with adults, children and families, facilitating their process in overcoming various issues including bereavement, early attachment issues, abuse and trauma.

Michelle has travelled toAmerica, where she has facilitated art therapy with a group of survivors of mother daughter sexual abuse and has also spent a number of years researching this form of sexual abuse.

COURSE ORIENTATION & OBJECTIVES

The Advanced Post-Qualifying Diploma in Humanistic & Integrative Adolescent Psychotherapy is a two-year in-depth training programme in Adolescent Development & Adolescent Psychotherapy. The aim of this training programme is to understand and appreciate the complexity of adolescent process and to support counsellors/therapists in developing deeper levels of competency in their work with adolescents who are experiencing psychological and developmental difficulties.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This Advanced Post-Qualifying Diploma is open to practitioners who have successfully completed a core psychotherapy training course (in either adult-oriented or child-oriented psychotherapy) and who are accredited (or working towards accreditation) with an accrediting body such as IAHIP, IACP, BACP or equivalent.
